Asheville Tourists News Release

The Colorado Rockies have added pitcher Chris Balcolm-Miller and outfielder Kent Matthes to the Asheville Tourists' 25-man roster. Both players are expected to be in uniform in time for Wednesday night's game at McCormick Field against the Lexington Legends.

A right-handed hurler, Balcolm-Miller was drafted in the sixth round by the Colorado Rockies in 2009 out of West Valley (Calif.) Junior College. He went 4-0 with a 1.58 ERA in 11 starts at Rookie-level Casper in 2009 before opening this season in extended spring training due to a minor injury. Balcolm-Miller was rated this winter as the 16th-best prospect in the Colorado organization by Baseball America magazine.

Matthes was drafted in the fourth round out of the University of Alabama in 2009. Named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year as a senior after leading the NCAA Division I level with 28 home runs, Matthes batted .289 with five homers and 35 RBIs last season at short-season Class A Tri-City. He entered this season ranked by Baseball America as the organization's 19th-best prospect. Matthes has been in extended spring training in Arizona while recovering from a minor injury.

Matthes is expected to be in the Tourists' lineup on Wednesday night; Balcolm-Miller's first start is slated for Friday, May 14.

The Tourists return home tonight to McCormick Field at 7:05 p.m. to face Lexington in the first game of a four-game series. For more information, contact the Tourists' front office at (828) 258-0428.
