CHARLESTON, SC - Ray Kruml and Kelvin Castro posted three hits, and Jairo Heredia won in his return to the Charleston rotation, as the Charleston RiverDogs beat the Augusta GreenJackets, 6-4, in front of 2,987 fans in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Wednesday night.

Charleston has won three games in a row and now sits 16-17, while Augusta snaps a three-game win streak in falling to 19-14.

Heredia (1-0), who pitched for Charleston in 2008 and 2009, earned his first win of the season giving up 11 hits in 6.2 innings while walking one and sinking three. The Dominican native had lost each of his six starts this season with the High-A Tampa Yankees, but rebounded for his eighth career win as a RiverDog.

Rob Lyerly staked the RiverDogs to a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single against starter Zack Wheeler.

After Wheeler retired the first two men in the second, Charleston exploded for five runs to increase the margin to 6-0. Castro singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Kruml's RBI single. After a balk bumped Kruml to second, Jimmy Paredes roped a RBI double to plate Kruml. Justin Milo delivered Kruml with a RBI single, which was followed by a walk to Luke Murton. Consecutive wild pitches by Wheeler scored Milo and Murton to wrap up the frame.

Wheeler (1-3) lasted just 2.2 innings allowing all six runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

In his first start with Charleston this season, Heredia kept Augusta silent until the fifth when Ryan Cavan's RBI single moved the advantage to 6-1.

Ryan Lollis added a RBI single in the sixth thinning the margin to 6-2.

In the seventh, Augusta cut the deficit to 6-4, when Chris Dominguez grounded a double to left and scored on an error by Charleston third baseman Garrison Lassiter. Luke Anders then hammered a RBI double into the right-field corner before Ryan Flannery was summoned from the bullpen to retire Hector Sanchez to end the threat.

Flannery retired the next six batters he faced on four strikeouts, including the game-ender against Dominguez, to notch his fifth save of the year.

Milo rapped a pair of singles and stole a base for Charleston, while Cavan, Dominguez and Anders all had two hits for Augusta. All 10 runs in the contest scored with two outs.

Game two of this series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Thursday night. Charleston has announced that right-hander Jose Ramirez (1-1, 2.62 ERA) will take the hill, while Augusta counters with right-hander Kyle Vazquez (3-0, 2.54 ERA).
