
Power Rallies Past Hagerstown, 13-9

The West Virginia Power (14-18) used a 12-run rally to comeback and defeat the Hagerstown Suns (16-16) 13-9 on Wednesday night.
With the Power leading 1-0 after the first half inning of the game, the Suns got hits from their first three batters off Nathan Baker. Francisco Soriano led off with a bunt single follwed by a Sean Nicol double to score him. Steven Souza doubled to right to bring home Nicol. Souza took third on a passed ball and scored on Justin Bloxom's ground out up the middle for a 3-1 lead.
The Suns added to their lead the next inning, all with two outs. Eury Perez reached third on two Power errors, scoring on a single by Soriano. After Soriano stole second, Nicol hit a line drive single to score him, putting Hagerstown's lead at 5-1.
Hagerstown held the lead with Mitchell Clegg's first start with the Suns, going five innings with one run, allowing only two hits in the first inning and striking out six.
The Power began to rally in the sixth inning. With runners on the corners and two out against Suns pitcher Glenn Gibson, Ramon Cabrera lined a triple to right that took a bad hop off the grass, scoring Evan Chambers and Aaron Baker. Jesus Brito singled to left to score Cabrera to cut the score to 5-4.
West Virginia continued the rally in the seventh with six runs, all charged to Kyle Morrison (1-2). With Chambers on second and two out, Aaron Baker hit a two-run home run to right to give the Power the 6-5 lead. A walk and a single later, Brito doubled to left to score Rogelios Noris, followed by a David Rubenstein single to score Cabrera and place runners on first and third. After Dean Weaver replaced Morrison, Jose Hernandez shot a triple to right, bringing in Brito and Rubenstein for the 10-5 lead.
In the top of the eighth, the Power got three more runs on the board with a two-run single by Cabrera and an RBI single by Rubenstein off Weaver, all unearned runs.
The Suns tried to rally back in the final innings. In the bottom of the eighth after Nicol lead off with a single, Souza hit a deep ball to left for his fifth home run of the season to cut the lead to 13-7.
In the bottom of the ninth, Adrian Nieto scored off a throwing error with Eury Perez up off Marc Baca. Two batters later, Nicol doubled to left to score Perez, but the rally fell short with West Virginia winning 13-9.
Jason Erickson (2-2) came in relief of Nathan Baker, throwing four scoreless innings with only one walk allowed.
Morrison gets the loss with six runs charged in two-thirds of an inning.
The Suns and Power will play came two of the series on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. Gates to Municipal Stadium open at 5:35 p.m.
