Club de Foot Montreal News Release
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - For the first time in Club history, CF Montréal will meet MLS' newest expansion side, Charlotte FC, this Saturday at Bank of America Stadium (TVA Sports, TSN, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690). Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
As Montreal looks to prolong its unbeaten streak to an unprecedented eight regular season matches, Wilfried Nancy's side will be heading into unknown territory against a club which made its league debut just over three months ago.
The North Carolinians struggled early in the season but have since settled into a defensive groove, shutting out their opponents in three of their last five matches. The hosts also boast a strong home record at 4-1-0. Charlotte's last and only home defeat came in a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy on March 5. And with the team's 1-0 victory against Inter Miami CF last weekend, Charlotte secured its fourth straight home win.
Canadian central defender Joel Waterman will miss out on the match for Montreal through suspension after receiving a yellow card caution on Saturday. Meanwhile, midfielders Victor Wanyama and Ismaël Koné will be once again available for selection following suspensions of their own last week.
And while Montreal has also lost four of its five away matches against expansion teams in its MLS history - only recording a win at New York City FC in August 2015 - the Club is also putting on its best offensive performance in the first 10 first matches of a season. Montreal has scored 20 goals since the start of the season. This is the highest in the Club's opening 10 matches since joining MLS in 2012. The previous record was set at 17 goals scored in 2016. Moreover, the team has only conceded, on average, one goal-per-game in its last five games.
Saturday's match will also mark the beginning of a stretch of three matches in nine days for Montreal.
