Q2 Stadium Wins Project of the Year at Austin Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards
May 13, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - On Thursday, Q2 Stadium - the home venue of Austin FC designed by Gensler - was announced as the Project of the Year winner at the Austin Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards.
"It's an honor to have Q2 Stadium recognized for both its matchday environment and design intention," said Austin FC President Andy Loughnane. "We're very grateful for our design partner Gensler, our construction partner Austin Commercial, and our project advisors at CAA Icon for their commitment to innovation and tireless work - without which recognition like this would not be possible."
Q2 Stadium hosted both its first-ever match (a U.S. Women's National Team friendly) and its first Austin FC match in June 2021. According to the Major League Soccer Players Association's 2021 Player Voices Poll, Austin FC's stadium environment was voted second-best in MLS by the league's players, and it was the only stadium in the league to see its host club sell out all 17 of its home matches in 2021, with an average attendance of 20,738.
In November 2021, the U.S. Green Building Council announced that Q2 Stadium had earned the Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, recognizing the commitment to sustainability undertaken in the stadium's construction and design, an important feature for Austin as an environmentally conscious city. Q2 Stadium was named a 2021 VenuesNow All-Star facility.
