Celebrating a Decade in the Queen City
October 6, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, are celebrating their 10th Season as a member of the American Hockey League and a resident of Manchester, New Hampshire. The team announced several creative initiatives for the celebratory season at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Monarchs unveiled a specialty 10th Season logo that will be used on marketing collateral and merchandise throughout the season. The new logo will also be included as a patch on new jerseys that were unveiled on Wednesday. The new jerseys feature the Monarchs colors in swooping stripes along the bottom and sleeves of the home white jerseys and road purple jerseys. They also have gold piping along the collar and the Kings crown logo as patches on each shoulder.
In addition to a new logo and new jerseys, the Monarchs are going green with their season tickets. All Full and Half Season Ticket Package Holders have been given ticket cards to bring to the game and have scanned upon entry rather than paper tickets. The ticket cards resemble credit cards and have one season ticket per card. If fans cannot attend a game and would like their friends to use their tickets, they can log onto their My Monarchs account through the Monarchs website and email their tickets for that particular game to their friend to print out.
The Monarchs will kick off their 10th Season with their Home Opener against the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, October 16. The Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Monarchs, are teaming up with the New Hampshire Food Bank, Shaw's and AutoFair for the second annual Max & Cheese Food Drive on Opening Night. The Monarchs Care Foundation is challenging fans to bring 10,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese to Opening Night in honor of the franchise's 10th season in the Queen City. In addition to this hefty goal on Opening Night, the Monarchs will be accepting boxes of macaroni and cheese throughout the month of October as it is "Macaroni and Cheese Month" for the New Hampshire Food Bank. Fans can use the boxes of macaroni and cheese as noise makers during the games and then donate them following the final puck drop.
For Opening Night, the Monarchs will be hosting a Plaza Party in front of the Verizon Wireless Arena from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16. Fans are invited to enjoy a live band, a climbing wall, bubble hockey, face painting, bouncy houses and much, much more. The celebration will continue inside the arena with an exciting pre-game opening ceremony featuring Monarchs memories over the last 10 years along with fireworks and banner unveilings. A smaller version of Opening Night's Plaza Party will continue throughout the season on Sundays as part of the team's Sunday Fundays. In addition to mini-Plaza Parties when the Monarchs play on Sundays, kids attending the game will receive custom Silly Bandz.
Two new initiatives the Monarchs introduced on Wednesday are a School Day Game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17 and Pink In The Rink against the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, January 22. The School Day Game will turn the Verizon Wireless Arena into the largest classroom in New Hampshire. With the support of New Hampshire's Commissioner of Education, middle school students will attend the game and follow along in a workbook as they learn history, math, science, health and community involvement through fun activities and the game itself.
The Monarchs Care Foundation and Catholic Medical Center are teaming up to host Pink In The Rink and raise both awareness and donations to fight Breast Cancer on Saturday, January 22. The Monarchs players will wear specialty jerseys and use pink tape on their sticks for the game. Following the match-up, the specialty jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit Breast Cancer research. The ice at the Verizon Wireless Arena will also be painted pink in celebration of Pink In The Rink.
On Saturday, December 4, the Monarchs will be celebrating the rich hockey history in New Hampshire with their final New Hampshire Legends of Hockey specialty jersey. The team will don throwback jerseys from the 1970s original Manchester Monarchs team when they host the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena that night. Following the game, the Monarchs Care Foundation will auction off the jerseys to benefit the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey. This is the ninth and final year that the Monarchs will wear a specialty New Hampshire Legends of Hockey jersey.
In July, the Monarchs introduced the Jeff Zatkoff Goalie Mask Design Contest where they asked fans to submit their designs for the mask that Zatkoff will wear throughout the 2010-11 season. Zatkoff chose the winning design and unveiled his new mask at Wednesday's press conference. Nathaniel Goodwin of Meredith, New Hampshire created the winning design and will be awarded the grand prize of viewing a private team practice and lunch with the team following practice with one guest. The contest's five finalists will receive their design submissions autographed by Zatkoff.
In addition to Zatkoff's Goalie Mask Design Contest, fans will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets online, one for $5 or five for $15, for a chance to win the mask at the end of the season autographed by Zatkoff. The raffle tickets will be available for purchase throughout the entire season and proceeds will benefit the Monarchs Care Foundation and the Lupus Foundation of America, the charity of Zatkoff's choice. Fans will also be able to take home a piece of Zatkoff's mask as the Monarchs are offering a ticket package which includes a mini-mask designed like the winning goalie mask.
Bring a box of macaroni and cheese to the Max & Cheese Food Drive and make some noise at the Monarchs Home Opener on Saturday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. versus Providence at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The first 5,000 fans to the Monarchs Home Opener will receive a magnetic schedule for the 2010-11 season. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGAM 900/1250 AM and at www.manchestermonarchs.com.
