Canadiens Assign Five Players to the Bulldogs

MONTREAL, QC - The Montreal Canadiens announced today that goaltender Curtis Sanford, defencemen Alex Henry and Yannick Weber and forwards Ben Maxwell and Ryan White have been assigned to the Bulldogs.

Sanford, 31, appeared in one pre-season game with Montreal, making six saves in 29 minutes of play. Last season, the native of Owen Sound, Ontario played in 41 games with the 'Dogs earning a record of 23-11-3 with a 2.13 goals-against-average, a .916 save percentage and posting four shutouts. In nine playoff games with Hamilton last season, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound goaltender had a 5-4 record along with a 2.02 GAA and a .925 save percentage and posted two shutouts.

Henry, 31, had an assist in four pre-season games with Montreal. The Bulldogs 2009-2010 captain played in 68 games with Hamilton last season recording 13 assists and ranking second on the team in penalty minutes with 154. The native of Elliot Lake, Ontario also recorded four points (two goals, two assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 19 playoff games. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound defenceman was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 3rd round, 67th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Weber, 22, played four pre-season contests with Montreal, registering two assists. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound defenceman played in 65 games for the Bulldogs last season recording 32 points (seven goals, 25 assists) and 58 penalty minutes. Weber also represented his native Switzerland at the 2010 Winter Olympics playing in five games and recording six penalty minutes. Weber was drafted in the 3rd round, 73rd overall by Montreal in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Maxwell, 22, amassed a goal and an assist in four pre-season games with the Canadiens. The native of North Vancouver, British Columbia produced 44 points (16 goals, 28 assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 57 games with the Bulldogs in 2009-2010. The 6-foot, 177-pound centre also played in 13 games with Montreal earning six penalty minutes. Maxwell was drafted in the 2nd round, 49th overall by the Canadiens in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

White, 22, competed in five pre-season games with Montreal, recording three points (two goals, one assist). The native of Brandon, Manitoba played in 62 games with Hamilton in 2009-2010, registering 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) while leading the team in penalty minutes with 173. White posted nine points (four goals, five assists) and 47 penalty minutes in 19 playoff games with the 'Dogs. The 6-foot, 200-pound centre also skated in 16 games with the Canadiens recording two assists and 16 penalty minutes. White was drafted by Montreal in the 3rd round, 66th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Hamilton will open its 15th American Hockey League season on Friday, October 15th at 7:35 p.m. when they travel to Rochester to battle the Americans. The Bulldogs will then return to Copps Coliseum to host their 2010-2011 home opener on Saturday, October 16th at 4:00 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on TODAY'S COUNTRY AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. All pre-game shows during 'Dogs home games will be broadcast live from the main concourse at Copps Coliseum.
