Sacramento River Cats News Release

LAS VEGAS - Sacramento staked Las Vegas an early 5-0 lead Saturday night and could not come back, dropping the series opener at Cashman Field, 7-2.

Las Vegas tagged River Cats starter Brad Peacock (6-4) for five runs over the game's first three innings, putting Sacramento in an early hole. After chasing Peacock after four innings, Las Vegas added another run in the fifth on an Adam Lind solo home run.

Sacramento would mount a comeback in the seventh. Daric Barton was hit by a pitch, Kila Ka'aihue doubled, and Michael Taylor drove in two with a two-out single to cut the lead to 6-2, but that would be as close as the River Cats would get.

Peacock suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in four innings of work, striking out six and walking three. Peacock remains winless since May 27, having gone 0-2 with three no decisions over his last five starts.

The win went to the recently acquired Sean O'Sullivan (6-4), who was picked up in a trade with Kansas City on Thursday. O'Sullivan surrendered just three hits and no runs in six innings of work.

Ka'aihue finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Taylor went 1-for-3 with a walk and both of Sacramento's RBIs.

Sacramento and Las Vegas face off again Sunday afternoon, with the 51s set to send RHP Andrew Carpenter (5-2, 3.68 ERA) to the mound. The River Cats starter is to be determined. First pitch from Cashman Field is set for 12:05 p.m. PT.

Sacramento returns home Tuesday for a seven-game homestand against Salt Lake and Colorado Springs. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is Bark in the Ballpark Night, where fans can bring their furry friends inside Raley Field. Fans can call (916) 371-HITS for details.
