Sox at .500 for First Time Since Late May After 5-1 Win

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (38-38) won their fourth straight game, and sixth out their last seven, by shutting down the Tacoma Rainiers (31-45) offense in a 5-1 win to raise the Sky Sox record to .500 on the season for the first time since May 27.

Colorado Springs starter Drew Pomeranz (4-4, 2.51 ERA) registered another solid outing for the Sox to even his record on the season, holding the Rainiers to a lone run in 5.1 innings of work. The left-hander has allowed ten earned runs in seven career starts and 35.2 innings at Security Service Field, while totaling 34 strikeouts. In eight of his nine starts for the Sky Sox this season Pomeranz has allowed three earned runs or less, and one run or less in six starts.

Sox designated hitter Chad Tracy led the way offensively for Colorado Springs, knocking in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning after the Rainiers tied the ballgame in the top of the inning, and he provided an insurance run on a solo shot in the seventh for his third homer of the season. Tracy's 2-for-3 performance in the game was his sixth multi-hit game in his last seven starts, and the infielder has a hit in all but three games in the month of June. Tracy's 26 hits this month, which are third most on the team, have raised his average from .209 to .251.

Also in the win outfielder Andrew Brown extended his streak of games with at least one RBI to seven with his RBI single in the eighth inning, and has totaled 15 RBI during that seven-game stretch. The four-game win streak is the tied for the second longest win streak the Sky Sox have enjoyed this season, and Colorado Springs won despite snapping their six-game streak of double-digit hits.

The Sox will look to tie their longest winning streak of the season of five games as they send out right-hander Carlos Torres (3-4, 4.59 ERA), who will look to snap a streak of three straight losses in home decisions. Torres will face off with Rainiers right-hander Jarrett Grube (0-4, 9.34 ERA) at 12:35 p.m. MT.
