Tacoma Rainiers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 5-1 at Security Service Field on Sunday afternoon.
After Brandon Roberts' sacrifice fly gave the Sky Sox an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, the Rainiers tied the score on an RBI-single hit by outfielder Darren Ford in the top of the fourth.
The score held until the bottom of the inning, with designated hitter Chad Tracy driving in the go-ahead run for Colorado Springs on a fly-ball single hit to center field that scored outfielder Andrew Brown.
Tracy stretched the Sky Sox to 3-1 with a one-out solo home run in the seventh inning. An RBI-single from Brown and a one-run double hit by Matt McBride helped the Sky Sox tack on two more in the eighth.
The Rainiers collected a combined 10 hits on Sunday, with Luis Jimenez going 3-for-5 with three singles - his team-leading 25th multi-hit game this season. Ford, Vinnie Catricala and Carlos Triunfel each recorded two-hit efforts.
Starter Andrew Carraway (2-3) was dealt the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits over 7.1 innings. The right-hander struck out three without issuing a walk.
The Rainiers (32-44) play the third game of the team's four-game series at Colorado Springs (37-39) at 11:35 a.m. tomorrow, June 25. Right-hander Jarrett Grube (0-4, 9.34) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against Sky Sox right-hander Carlos Torres (3-4, 4.59).
