Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats topped the Lowell Spinners 6-5 on a walk-off single by Dexture McCall in the bottom of the 14th inning, concluding a contest that took a total of four hours and thirty-six minutes.
Before the game turned into an extra-innings battle, the ValleyCats took an early lead with three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth, build a 4-1 lead entering the sixth frame.
However, Lowell chipped in to the Tri-City lead with one run each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth frames, as the game went into extra-innings tied 4-4.
Playing past the ninth inning for the fifth time this year, the ValleyCats actually fell being in the eleventh frame when Spinners shortstop Hector Lorenzana homered to left field. Fortunately, the 'Cats battled right back, when Edwin Medina drove home Drew Ferguson with a two-out single to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
The game then stayed tied all the way until the bottom of the 13th, when Anthony Hermelyn led off the inning with a walk against Lowell right-hander Aneudis Peralta.
Peralta, normally infielder who only entered the game to pitch for Lowell in the 13th inning once the Spinners were forced to preserve their bullpen, then misplayed a bunt off the bat of Bryan Muniz, allowing Hermelyn to reach third base.
That brought up McCall, who hit a ground ball single up the middle on a 3-2 pitch, driving home Hermelyn, and giving the 'Cats a 6-5 victory.
With the win, Tri-City advanced to 4-1 in extra-inning contests, and 3-0 in extra-inning games at home.
After playing Sunday's 14-inning marathon contest, the Spinners and ValleyCats will conclude their three-game series at 7:00 p.m., on Monday. On the mound for Tri-City will be RHP Dean Deetz (1-1, 2.25), with RHP Danny Rosenbaum 0-0, 2.77) getting the start for Lowell.
