Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (8-8) dropped the second game of a three game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters (6-10) by a final of 6-0.
Vermont snapped a two game losing streak behind strong pitching and some hot bats. Kyle Freidrichs, Oakland's seventh round pick out of Long Beach State, started the game and worked three innings allowing no hits and striking out one. The bullpen was just as good behind him.
Kevin Ferreras (1-1) was the first man out of the pen and he picked up the win going three innings allowing just one hit with a strikeout. Tyler Painton followed and worked the final three innings to pick up the save, his second. Painton scattered just two hits.
The Tigers only had three hits on the afternoon. Kade Scivicque had two hits in the game and Joey Havrilak tallied the other hit with two outs in the ninth.
Vermont started the scoring in the third against Connecticut starter Sandy Baez (1-2). Baez lasted just three innings as he allowed five hits and three runs while walking two and striking out three.
Second basemen Trace Loehr (1-3, R) started the inning with a single and he would score on a double by centerfielder Steven Pallares (1-3, 3 RBI, R, 2B) to make it 1-0. Third basemen Mikey White walked to put runners on first and second and after a balk both runners moved up 90 feet. Catcher Nick Collins drove in the Lake Monsters second run with a fielder's choice ground out. The inning was capped off by left fielder Seth Brown (2-4, RBI) who had an RBI single making it 3-0.
The Lake Monsters added two more runs in the fourth. After the first batters reached against reliever Oswaldo Castillo both Pallares and first basemen Chris Iriart lifted sacrifice flies that extended the lead. Vermont scored their final run on another Pallares sac fly in the sixth.
Connecticut will play at home again tomorrow and host Vermont in the final game of the three game series. First pitch tomorrow afternoon is set for 7:05.
