Carruth's 43 Stops Lead Fuel to 5-2 Win
February 21, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
ELMIRA, NY - In the third of four head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel defeated the Elmira Jackals on Saturday at First Arena in Elmira, New York by a final score of 5-2. With the win, Indy improved to 20-23-4-4 overall this season and with 48 points, pulled into fifth place alone in the ECHL's North Division standings.
An early Kyle Stroh goal gave the Fuel a 1-0 lead at 2:22 of the opening frame, but the Jackals equalized late in the first when Ryan Rashid spirited home a transition score at 19:06 to tie the game at one heading into the first intermission. In the middle stanza, the Fuel grabbed control of the game with back-to-back power-play scores from Nicklas Lindberg at 3:47 and Nick Jones less than one minute later to make it 3-1 Fuel through 40 minutes of play.
A frenzy of late scoring got started at 17:32 of the third period when Pete Massar buried an empty-net goal to make it 4-1 Fuel, but Elmira responded with a Riley Wetmore tally at 18:14 that gave the Jackals hope. Those hopes dissipated at 19:51, however, as Stroh set up Vincent Arseneau for another empty-net score, Arseneau's seventh goal of the season, a marker that established the Fuel's final margin of victory at 5-2.
Mac Carruth was sensational in net for Indy, stopping 43 of the 45 Jackals shots he faced for his tenth win in his past 11 starts for the Fuel. Carruth's counterpart Sam Marotta took the loss in net for the Jackals despite a workmanlike 20 save performance.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Wednesday showdown with the Kalamazoo Wings with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm on "Miracle on Ice 35th Anniversary" Night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
