
Captains "Balk-Off" Winners

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Claudio Bautista jogged home from third when Bowling Green reliever Stone Speer Balked home the game winner. Stone, just entered the game from the bullpen and came on with the bases loaded. Stone started his pitching motion and stopped which by rule is a Balk. The Captains have won back-to-back games.
Lake County (11- scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Paul Hendrix hit a two run homerun, his fourth of the season, and the Captains led 2-0. Nellie Rodriguez hit a solo homer, his fifth on the season and the score was 3-0. Brian Ruiz capped the inning with an RBI single and the Captains led 4-0 after one inning.
Lake County added a run in the bottom of the second inning. Clint Frazier reached on a two base error and then a passed ball moved him third base. Nellie Rodriguez knocked in his second run with a sacrifice fly to right. The lead was 5-0.
Bowling Green got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Armando Araiza homered to make the score 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, Bowling Green committed four errors and the Captains just got two hits but scored five runs. The inning was capped on a bases clearing double by Grant Fink the Captains led in the game by a score of 10-1.
Bowling Green scored four runs in the seventh inning. With one on and two outs Johnny Field hit a two run homer and the score was 10-3. Armando Ariza hit a homer and so did Graden Goetzman and the score was 10-5. The back-to-back-to-back homers were the first hit against the Captains this season.
In the eighth, Darryl George homered and the score was 10-6. With two outs and a runner on first Pat Blair doubled and the score was trimmed to 10-7. With the bases loaded Goetzman was hit-by-a-pitch and the score was 10-8. Oscar Hernandez then singled home two and the game was tied at 10-10. Bowling Green erased a nine run deficit in two innings to tie the game.
RHP Mitch Brown (0-5) started for Lake County and did not get a decision. Brown pitched five and two thirds and gave up four hits, one earned run and four walks. Mitch struck out three and allowed one homer. Alexis Paredes pitched one and one third innings and allowed four earned runs. Paredes allowed three hits, all homeruns. Luis DeJesus pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed two hits, three earned runs one walk and one homer. Ben Heller pitched one third of an inning and allowed one hit, two earned runs, two walks, one hit batter and one strikeout. Wander Beras (2-0) pitched three innings and did not allow a run to earn the win.
RHP Hunter Wood (1-0) started for Bowling Green and did not get a decision. Wood pitched two innings and allowed five runs, four were earned, he walked three on six hits. Wood struck out three and allowed three homeruns. German Marquez pitched four innings and allowed five un earned runs on four hits and three strikeouts. Andrew Hanse pitched two innings and did not allow a run. Ian Kendall (2-1) took the loss after pitching two and one third innings and allowed one run it was earned, on one hit, four walks and one strikeout.
The Captains will remain home in Eastlake, Ohio for the finale of a three game home stand. The Captains will play the Bowling Green Hot Rods the Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Captains will start RHP Robbie Aviles (0-1, 1.09) and Bowling Green will toss LHP Blake Snell (2-2, 2.42). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
On Friday and Saturday, Classic Park will be decorated for Halloween and kids are encouraged to wear costumes both nights. Captains staff throughout the ballpark will be handing our hundreds of pounds of candy to kids who "trick-or-treat" during the game. Both games begin at 6:30 PM.
