Hot Rods Erase Nine-Run Deficit, But Fall in Extras

Eastlake, Ohio -A wild game saw the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) overcome a 10-1 deficit by scoring four runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth, but a balk in the bottom of the 11th inning resulted in the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) claiming victory, 11-10.

Trailing 10-1 entering the top of the seventh, Juniel Querecuto started the improbable rally with a one-out walk. One out later, Johnny Field slammed a two-run home run to left field. Armando Araiza then homered on the first pitch he saw for a second consecutive inning. Granden Goetzman capped the inning with a blast of his own, giving the Hot Rods back-to-back-to-back homers for the first time this season. The rally trimmed the Lake County lead to 10-5.

The rally extended into the eighth inning for the Hot Rods, and they leveled the game. With one out, Darryl George launched his second home run of the season. One out later, Querecuto drew his fourth walk of the game, and Pat Blair plated him with a double to left-center field. Back-to-back walks to Field and Araiza loaded the bases, and Goetzman was hit by a pitch to bring the Hot Rods within two.

Oscar Hernandez then sliced a base hit to left-center field, it scored Field, and Araiza came around as well to score the tying run.

The game came to a wild ending in the 11th inning. Grant Fink, Josh McAdams, and Brian Ruiz each reached to load the bases with one out. Stone Speer entered the ballgame, but he was called for a balk to end the ballgame, as pinch runner Claudio Bautista scored the winning-run.

Four different Hot Rods drove in a pair of runs, and three Bowling Green players recorded multi-hit games. Goetzman stretched his batting average to .339 with two hits. Despite getting on base four times, Querecuto's 12-game hitting streak came to an end.

The Hot Rods will try to secure a winning road trip with a victory tomorrow in the finale with Lake County. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show will get underway at 5:15 p.m. CT on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket. Blake Snell will take the mound for Bowling Green.
