Comstock Park, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (16-18) consistently found ways to put runners on base. but it was the West Michigan Whitecaps (22-13) who took fullest advantages of their opportunities in a 7-3 victory on Friday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

The Whitecaps held the Lugnuts to 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position as Lansing stranded eight runners on base for the night. The hometown 'Caps stranded just three runners in winning their sixth straight game.

West Michigan catcher Bennett Pickar opened the scoring with a two-run single in the second inning off of Lugnuts starting pitcher Chase De Jong (Loss, 0-1), grabbing a lead that they would never relinquish.

Lansing plated its first two runs in the top of the sixth against West Michigan starter Kevin Ziomek (Win, 2-3), both unearned thanks to a throwing error by center fielder Wynton Bernard and an RBI groundout by Dawel Lugo.

But the Whitecaps quickly answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning off reliever Alonzo Gonzalez and were never seriously threatened again.

Ziomek rebounded from a loss in his last start against the Lugnuts with five strikeouts in six innings. De Jong allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout in his five innings.
