Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (38-33) totaled a season-high 18 hits and scored a run in six of eight innings, outclassing the Lansing Lugnuts (25-46) 14-10 on a cool and sunny Wednesday evening at Classic Park.
After the Lugnuts took a 1-0 lead in the first, Lake County offensively strung together four straight singles to open up the bottom of the first. Alexfri Planez singled home Angel Martinez and Petey Halpin went opposite field to plate Joe Naranjo. Mike Amditis would hit single number five of the frame, bringing across Planez and Halpin to make it 4-1.
Lansing rebounded quickly, scoring half of their total runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Tyler Soderstrom off starter Aaron Davenport that put the Lugnuts ahead 6-4.
After a run scored in the bottom of the second made it a one-run game, Lake County would take their second lead off two home runs in the third inning. Aaron Bracho led off the inning with a towering solo shot over the right-field fence and Angel Martinez powered a two-run blast to right-field bringing the score to 8-6.
Tyler Soderstrom tied up the game once more in the fourth, after a two-run home run. Lake County in the bottom of the fourth would take the lead again and this time they would not relinquish it.
Milan Tolentino smacked a double off the right-field wall in the bottom of the fourth and Connor Kokx bunted and then stole second putting two runners in scoring position. Aaron Bracho lifted a ball to centerfield to score Tolentino and Kokx came across following a balk, off Lansing's Joe Demers who in relief took the loss.
The Lugnuts only scored two more runs from the fifth through the ninth inning. Alaska Abney went two innings in relief and punched out three.
Jack DeGroat navigated through a triple in the seventh, finishing the inning with a strikeout and only one run permitted. Trey Benton would earn the final four outs.
Lake County in the sixth and eighth tacked on two runs, Connor Kokx knocked home three, an RBI single in the sixth, and a two-run homer in the eighth. Kokx has hit three home runs in his past four games played.
The Captains went 9-for-18 with runners in scoring position tonight and have hit double-digit runs in three of their last nine games.
Game Three between the Captains and Lugnuts is tomorrow Thursday, June 30th with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. It is Thirsty Thursday, where Modelo Draft Beer is available at half-price until 9:00 p.m.
