West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Outfielder Daniel Cabrera collected six RBI as the West Michigan Whitecaps came alive on offense, dominating the Fort Wayne TinCaps 14-4 in front of 4,925 fans Wednesday night at LMCU Ballpark.
Cabrera came just one RBI short of tying the 2022 single-game record set by Jake Holton, who drove home seven runs in an 8-7 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on June 14. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps drew nine walks total while finishing 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the victory.
The Whitecaps plated four runs in the second inning - featuring a two-run single from Cabrera - delivering West Michigan the 4-0 lead. 'Caps starter Brant Hurter compiled five strikeouts through three scoreless innings before Fort Wayne struck in the fourth, plating three runs as Lucas Dunn roped an RBI triple before Cole Cummings and Anthony Vilar both added RBIs to cut the lead to 4-3. West Michigan responded with their second four-run inning in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple from Bryant Packard before Cabrera blasted his second home run in as many games in the fifth, extending the lead to 9-3. A Whitecaps fielding error delivered Fort Wayne a run in the top half of the seventh before exploding for five in the bottom half, spotlighted by a two-run single from Holton, providing the 'Caps a commanding 14-4 advantage. Relievers Andrew Magno and RJ Petit combined for two shutout innings on a strikeout to slam the door and send the 'Caps on to victory.
Gio Arriera (7-0) records his seventh win going 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout, as TinCaps starter Jackson Wolf (3-4) suffers his fourth loss, allowing four runs through 1.2 innings in the defeat. Cabrera accounted for four of the six base hits for the Whitecaps, as every West Michigan hitter reached base at least once in the resounding win. The Whitecaps improve to 33-37 as the TinCaps fall to 28-42.
