Bates Helps Lead Quad Cities to Second Consecutive Win

Davenport, Iowa - Behind a three-RBI night from Parker Bates and clutch pitching down the stretch, the Quad Cities River Bandits won their second game of the week against the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday, claiming a 4-2 victory at Modern Woodmen Park.

Zach Haake got the Bandits off to a great start on the mound, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts in his third rehab start with Quad Cities. However, Peoria starter Wilfredo Periera matched him zero for zero until Haake gave way to Caden Monke for the fourth.

After two scoreless innings from the left-hander, the Q.C. offense finally broke through against Periera in the bottom of the fifth, as Parker Bates drove a two-run homer over the right-field fence for the Bandits' first hit and a 2-0 lead.

Peoria quickly responded in the sixth though and plated the game tying-runs against Monke on Francisco Hernandez's RBI double and Ramon Mendoza's safety squeeze.

Monke returned to the hill for the seventh inning, but allowed three consecutive Chiefs hits before being replaced by Anderson Paulino, who worked out of the jam without giving up a run to keep the game tied.

Peoria stuck with its pitcher as well and sent Periera out for the bottom of the seventh. However, he also ran into trouble and gave up the go-ahead run to Bates once again, who tripled down the right-field line to score Morgan McCullough and put Quad Cities on top 3-2.

With a man on third, the Chiefs turned to Nathanael Heredia for the final two outs of the frame, but Burle Dixon won a nine-pitch at-bat and plated Bates with an RBI single for a two-run advantage.

Paulino worked a one-two-three eighth inning for the Bandits and bridged the gap to right-hander Kasey Kalich, who allowed the tying runs on base in the top of the ninth, but struck out Tyler Reichenborn with Chiefs on the corners to seal the 4-2 Bandits' win and his fourth save of the season.

Quad Cities will look to match its season-best mark with a third consecutive win on Thursday, as they'll send Charlie Neuweiler (4-5, 5.11) to the hill against Dionys Rodriguez (1-8, 5.31) for a 6:30pm first pitch at Modern Woodmen Park.
