West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps committed three errors as the offense failed to convert with runners in scoring position, falling to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 8-3 in front of 5,665 fans Tuesday night at LMCU Ballpark.
The Whitecaps compiled 13 hits but couldn't convert them into runs, finishing 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position while leaving 14 on base in the defeat. Whitecaps starter Keider Montero lasted only 1.2 innings, allowing six runs (only three of them earned) in the loss.
Both teams scored in the first as Lucas Dunn roped an RBI-Single before Daniel Cabrera blasted a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. Fort Wayne hit for the cycle as a team in the second inning - featuring a two-run single from Corey Rosier - before Matthew Acosta scored on a Whitecaps fielding error in the third, plating six runs and taking a 7-1 lead. Bryant Packard pounded an RBI-Single in the third before Austin Murr drew a bases-loaded walk. Still, the Whitecaps squandered the opportunity as TinCaps starter Ryan Bergert induced a ground ball and a flyout to tightrope out of the jam and maintain the lead, 7-3. Fort Wayne added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch, as West Michigan failed to rally, falling to the TinCaps 8-3.
TinCaps reliever Gabe Morales (2-0) secures his second win, going four shutout innings with two strikeouts, as Montero (3-4) suffers his fourth loss. Montero has allowed 15 runs (12 earned) over his last three starts. Meanwhile, catcher Eliezer Alfonzo secured his first four-hit game of the season, finishing 4-4 with a walk and run scored. The TinCaps improve to 28-42 as the Whitecaps fall to 33-37.
