GENEVA, Ill. - The TinCaps continued their road trip against the Midwest League's West Division on Thursday night and lost to the Kane County Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks), 3-1, at Northwestern Medicine Field.

In his first start of the season, Ben Sheckler, who was transitioning from the bullpen, faced the minimum through the first 13 batters he faced. The only man to reach against him was Cougars (15-16) first baseman Yoel Yanqui, who had an infield single in the second. But Sheckler got the next batter, Eudy Ramos, to ground into a double play.

In fact, Sheckler induced 10 groundouts and no flyouts. However, in the fifth, Yanqui again reached with an infield single and then Ramos launched a two-run homer over the fence in left field to break the ice.

The TinCaps (14-20) chipped into their 2-0 deficit with a run in the top of the sixth. After singles from right fielder Tirso Ornelas and first baseman Carlos Belen, designated hitter Luis Campusano also singled to plate Ornelas.

However, Fort Wayne didn't get any closer. Kane County added an insurance run in its half of the seventh. The 'Caps went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.

Luis Almanzar made his Midwest League debut starting at third base and batting sixth. The 18-year-old was added to the TinCaps' roster earlier in the day. MLB.com rates him as the No. 26 prospect in San Diego's farm system. He drew a walk.
