THURSDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps fell to the Cougars, 3-1. Fort Wayne's lone run came in the top of the sixth as Luis Campusano provided an RBI single.

INTERNATIONAL SPLASH: The Padres spent more than $80 million during the 2016-17 international free agency signing period (a franchise record). Among the players San Diego signed, 7 were rated by MLB.com among the "Top 30 International Free Agent Prospects" of 2016: LHP Adrian Morejon (with TinCaps in 2017), INF Luis Almanzar, INF Gabriel Arias, OF Jorge Oña (with TinCaps in '17), OF Jeisson Rosario, INF Jordy Barley (has yet to reach Fort Wayne), RHP Ronald Bolaños (with TinCaps in '17).

LAST TIME HERE: In 2016, the TinCaps took 2 out of 3 games at Kane County. In the rubber match of the series on Saturday, May 7, Fort Wayne trailed 3-2 entering the ninth inning until Carlos Belen bashed a go-ahead 3-run homer to left field and the 'Caps went on to win 7-4.

BACK HOME: Jack Suwinski, who grew up in Chicago, had about 35 family members and friends at Thursday night's game. The ballpark here is about 40 miles from where Suwinski went to high school (Taft HS) in Chicago. In total this weekend, about 150 supporters will be here to see him play.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is tied for 1st runs (26), 6th in OBP (.451), and tied for 4th in walks (26)... Esteury Ruiz is tied for 3rd in triples (3), tied for 8th in home runs (5), and tied for 10th in total bases (54)... Carlos Belen is tied for 9th in RBIs (21)... Nick Margevicius is tied for 2nd in the MWL in strikeouts with 44.

ADVANCED STATS LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario ranks 6th in BB% (21%) and 2nd in Line Drive % (31%)... Gabriel Arias is 5th in hitting the ball to the opposite field, Oppo% (46%)... Tirso Ornelas is 9th in that category (44%).

YOUNGEST TEAM IN MiLB: The TinCaps feature the 5 youngest players in the league: Justin Lopez (18), Tirso Ornelas (18), Gabriel Arias (18), Luis Almanzar (18), and Jeisson Rosario (18). Fort Wayne has 10 teenagers on its roster. The average age for a Fort Wayne batter this year, according to baseball-reference.com, has been 19.3 That is the youngest in the league by far. The average age for a Midwest League batter this year has been 21.3. (Cedar Rapids is second youngest at 20.8. Clinton is oldest at 22.3.)

STREAKING: Juan Fernandez is on a 20-game on-base streak. That's tied for the 7th longest streak in the league so far this year. He's reached base in every game he's had a plate appearance... Jeisson Rosario had a 17-game on-base streak that began on April 15 end Tuesday.

HOMECOMING TOUR: TinCaps hitting coach Jonathan Mathews is from Centerville, Iowa, which is about 3 hours southwest of Davenport, where the 'Caps played Quad Cities. Mathews coached at Indian Hills Community College in Ottuma, Iowa, where he also taught economics from 2000-12. Previously, Mathews earned a master's in athletic administration in 2000 at the University of Iowa, where he was a part-time coach from 1995-96... Now he's back in Kane County where he was the hitting coach in 2016. Mathews joined the D-Backs organization in 2014, coaching in South Bend. After a season in High-A with Visalia he came to Kane County. Last year he was on San Diego's major league staff, working with the team's outfielders.
