Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI -Jack Meggs hit his third home run of the season, but the Beloit Snappers (13-15) fell 4-3 to the Lansing Lugnuts (21-13) Thursday night at Pohlman Field before 508 fans.
Trailing 2-1, Lansing would score three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Kevin Vicuna scored on a throwing error by Snappers pitcher Ivan Andueza to tie the game at 2. Kevin Smith and Christian Williams both scored later in the inning to give the Lugnuts a 4-2 edge.
Snappers outfielder Jack Meggs tried to kick start a rally in the bottom of the eighth, as he belted a solo home run to right field to bring the Snappers within a run. For Meggs, it was his second homer in as many nights.
The Snappers then gave an effort in the bottom of the ninth, as Lazaro Armenteros drew a two out walk with Austin Beck coming to the plate. Beck then grounded into a force out, as Lugnuts shortstop Kevin Vicuna fielded the ball and threw on to second to retire Armenteros to end the game.
Mitchell Jordan tossed a gem, as the right-hander allowed just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out three batters in his first start of the season. He did not factor into the decision as Andueza was tabbed with his first loss of the season.
Logan Farrar extended his hitting streak to nine games in the loss with a single in the bottom of the first inning.
The series continues with game two of the three-game set with the Lansing Lugnuts Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. . Right-hander Jean Ruiz (0-1, 5.32) will start for the Snappers, and the Lugnuts will send right-hander Turner Larkins (1-3, 5.14) ).
