Great Lakes Loons News Release

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - Right-handed starter Dylan File spun eight stupendous innings, and the Great Lakes Loons were shut out for the second time this season, 6-0, to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a chilly, overcast night at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Loons have now lost eight straight to the Timber Rattlers and fall to 1-5 on the road trip. The series wraps up Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. EDT.

Playing in 42-degree temperatures with a stiff breeze blowing in from right field, the Loons bats were as cold as the unseasonably gelid May weather.

File was a big part of the reason why: the 21st-round pick set career highs in innings pitched (eight) and strikeouts (10) and allowed four hits and one walk. He improves to 5-1 on the season, and is tied for the most wins in the Midwest League. The Loons did not place multiple runners on base until the eighth inning.

A rocky second inning for File's counterpart, Max Gamboa, put the Loons in an early deficit from which they never recovered. After the first two Wisconsin batters of the inning reached with singles to put runners on first and second, Payton Henry batted a ball softly in the grass on the third-base side of the mound. Gamboa raced to the ball and fielded it cleanly, but slipped as he planted his foot in the turf to throw to first. While Gamboa remained afoot, he threw the ball wildly over the head of first baseman Jared Walker, which allowed Gilbert Lara to score and advance runners to second and third.

The next batter, Gabriel Garcia, bounced a ball just inside the third-base line and beyond the dive of Brandon Montgomery for a two-RBI double to make the score 3-0. After Garcia advanced to third on a groundout, Gamboa unleashed a wild pitch that scored the fourth run of the inning.

The Loons bullpen only allowed one run in four innings, and right-hander Zach Pop lengthened his streak of zero earned runs to 13 2/3 innings with two scoreless on Thursday night with four strikeouts. However, the offense could not pass muster and the team's batting average dipped to .226 with a five-hit performance, the worst in the Midwest League.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
