Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, IA - It took the Quad Cities River Bandits six innings to get on the scoreboard on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park, but when they finally did, they cashed in for eight runs in their final three at bats to win an 8-1 game over the Lake County Captains. The win evened the series at one game apiece in front of a crowd of 3,456.
The Captains took the first lead of the game in the second inning off of starting pitcher Parker Mushinski. With two outs in the inning, Austen Wade worked a walk and then raced to third on a double off the bat of Ulysses Cantu. Mushinski then walked Todd Isaacs to load the bases. He also could not find the zone against Tyler Friis, walking the nine-hitter and forcing in a run to give Lake County a 1-0 lead.
It took some time for the River Bandits to find success against Lake County starter Francisco Perez, but after leaving the bases loaded in the fifth, they were finally able to tally in the sixth. Jake Meyers hustled into second base with a leadoff double and was joined on the base paths by Jonathan Arauz who walked. Miguelangel Sierra, playing in his first game with the River Bandits, tied the game with a single up the middle. The next hitter, Bryan De La Cruz lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Arauz and gave the Bandits their first lead at 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Cody Bohanek started the frame by reaching on an error when first baseman Ulysses Cantu dropped a throw from the third baseman. Julks followed with a single of his own to put two on base for Meyers. The center fielder doubled into the left field corner to score both runners and make it 4-1 in favor of the River Bandits.
The lead swelled to 8-1 in the eighth inning as the Bandits scored four runs off of Lake County reliever Jonathan Teaney. The bases became loaded thanks to three walks before Jonathan Lacroix drove in the first run with an infield single. Another infield single from Meyers pushed the lead to 6-1. The final damage was done on a two-RBI single into center from Arauz.
The River Bandits finished with eight hits. Meyers led all players in the game with three. He also drove in three runs while Arauz chipped in with two RBI of his own.
Mushinski threw 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Dariel Aquino tossed a scoreless frame with a walk and two strikeouts. Enoli Paredes picked up a save by working 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings and striking out three.
The River Bandits (19-14) close out the series with the Lake County Captains (15-18) at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. The River Bandits turn to LHP Patrick Sandoval (2-1, 4.85) in a match up with Lake County LHP Kirk McCarty (1-2, 7.33) on the mound.
