CALGARY HITMEN NEWS AND NOTES
HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen open a two game road trip Friday night in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. It's their first meeting since the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup. The Hitmen are 0-11-1-0 in their last 12 and are coming off a 6-2 home ice loss to Kootenay on Sunday. Kevin King led the way for the visitors scoring twice and setting up two others. Steele Boomer, Ryan Bloom, Matt Fraser and Jagger Dirk also scored for the Canadian Hockey League's #8 ranked Ice. Cody Sylvester and Trevor Cheek scored the Calgary goals as the Hitmen were outshot 36-27. Both teams went 1-4 with the man advantage.
VS BRANDON: Friday is first of four regular season meetings with the Wheat Kings. Last season including the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup the two teams met 11 times; Four in the regular season (Brandon won the season series going 3-0-1-0), Five in the Eastern Conference Final (Calgary won the best-of-seven playoff series in five games 4-1) and twice at the MasterCard Memorial Cup (Calgary won the round robin game with Brandon winning the semi-final). The Hitmen and Wheat Kings will meet again this season on Thursday, December 30th in Calgary.
SLOW STARTS: Calgary has given up the first goal in eight of their last nine games.
REGULAR SEASON CAREER WATCH: Jimmy Bubnick needs three points for 150. Mackenzie Royer is two games shy of 100.
TEAM WHL: Hitmen Head Coach Mike Williamson will serve as an assistant coach for Team WHL this week at the Subway Super Series. Games will be played in Kamloops on Wednesday and Prince George on Thursday. Meanwhile defenceman Matt MacKenzie will play in both games while Jimmy Bubnick will suit up in Prince George.
STREAKIN: Matt MacKenzie (3a) is riding a three game point streak.
HITMEN ALUMNUS: Giffen Nyren who played last season with the Hitmen is in the AHL with the Abbotsford Heat. The 21-year-old defenceman has two points (1g 1a) in six games. He also has 10 shots on goal and is a +4.
"MOVEMBER": Calgary Hitmen together with Canada Safeway and Prostate Cancer Canada have teamed up for "Movember". The Hitmen are growing mustaches this month to raise awareness and funds in the fight against prostate cancer. Fan can go to hitmenhockey.com and click the "Movember" link to donate. During his lifetime, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with the disease, and this number is expected to rise to 1 in 4 within a decade. Prostate cancer is over 90 per cent curable if detected and treated in its earliest stages. So far the campaign has raised $6,120.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Calgary's powerplay is 14th in the WHL (19-103) at 18.4%. Meanwhile the penalty kill is ranked 17th having given up 26 goals on 108 chances at 75.9%.
OUTDOOR GAME: The Hitmen host the Regina Pats at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Monday, February 21st. Ticket information will be released on or before December 9th. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
UPCOMING GAMES: The Hitmen will wrap up their road trip in Moose Jaw on Sunday. Calgary is then back home to host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday, November 23rd. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. It's the start of a home and home as Calgary will make the return trip to Edmonton the following night.
