Kamloops Blazers News Release

The city of Kamloops will be hosting Game 5 of the Subway Super Series this Wednesday, November 17th at Interior Savings Centre.

The Kamloops Blazers will be represented by Chase Schaber, Austin Madaisky and Brendan Ranford. Head Coach Guy Charron and Trainer Colin Robinson will also be on Team WHL's staff assisting Blazer Alumni and Kelowna Rockets Head Coach Ryan Huska. Brendan Ranford was added to Team WHL last week and Blazers Captain Chase Schaber was announced as one of Team WHL's assistant captains today. Austin Madaisky joined the Blazers last season along with Schaber and was drafted this summer in the 5th Round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

There will be four NHL first round draft picks suiting up for Team WHL as well as potential 2011 and 2012 first overall NHL picks in Red Deer Rebels forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Everett Silvertips defenseman Ryan Murray.

Former Blazers Captain and Kamloops native Ajay Baines was announced as an Honourary Captain for the game and will be joined by Chief Shane Gottfriedson of the Tk'emlups Indian Band. Following his career with the Blazers, Ajay Baines went on to enjoy a lengthy professional career and has been inducted as a Blazers Legend. Chief Gottfriedson is a well respected community leader and has created many sustainable opportunities for First Nations people. He currently serves on several regional, provincial and federal committees including the BC Chiefs Health Committee as an advocate for the Aboriginal child welfare reform. The Tk'emlups Indian Band is also a great supporter of the Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club.

This year the Russian squad is much stronger than in past years and should provide a strong opponent for Team WHL. Team Russia swept games 1 and 2 of the Subway Series against Team QMJHL before falling to Team OHL in game 3. This series provides an exciting preview to the World Junior Championships taking place this holiday season in Buffalo, NY. For many of these players, this is their last chance to show what they've got and land themselves a spot on Team Canada.
