The Portland Winterhawks (18-3-0-1) got four points from Ty Rattie as they earned a 6-3 road win Monday against the Moose Jaw Warriors (11-10-0-1).

The win improved the Winterhawks' record to 4-1 on the road trip through the East Division, and extended their league-best record, giving them 37 points.

Moose Jaw opened the scoring early in the game, as 3:12 into the first Collin Bowman took a shot from the point on a power play that found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Winterhawks got it back at the 8:13 mark when Brendan Leipsic scored his sixth goal of the season to make it 1-1. The goal included an assist from Sven Bartschi, which extended his points streak to 16 straight games. Just 1:29 later Spencer Bennett gave Portland the lead when he went high on Moose Jaw goaltender Thomas Heemskerk for his eighth goal of the season. Moose Jaw tied the game later in the period when Sam Fioretti scored a power play goal at the 18:14 mark to make the score 2-2 going into the second period.

But from there the Winterhawks took over in the second, scoring three straight goals. It started with Ryan Johansen scoring his 10th goal of the season just 33 seconds into the period, and was followed by two goals from Rattie, one at the 3:44 mark and the second at the 16:40 mark, to make it 5-2 going into the third.

The Warriors got one back 3:41 into the third on a goal by Antonin Honejsek to make it 5-3, but that would be close as they would get. The Winterhawks added an empty net goal by Nino Niederreiter at the 18:38 mark to close out the 6-3 win.

Along with Rattie's four points, the Winterhawks got two points apiece from Bartschi, Johansen and Niederreiter.

Mac Carruth got the win in net, turning away 39 of 42 shots. Heemskerk made 31 saves on 36 Portland shots in the loss.

The Winterhawks wrap up their road trip tomorrow night in Brandon as they take on the Wheat Kings. The team returns home and takes on Kamloops Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m.
