Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

With 11 wins in their last 12 games, the Winterhawks have raced out to an 11-point lead over both the Tri-City Americans and Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL's U.S. Division. The Winterhawks are also eight points ahead of the Vancouver Giants in the conference standings, and three points ahead of the Kootenay Ice for best overall record in the league. Portland leads the WHL in wins (17), points (35), winning percentage (.833), goals (86), goal differential (+33) and penalty killing (.876), while their 53 goals allowed is second in the WHL to Seattle's 52.

Through four games of their road trip through the WHL's East Division, the Winterhawks are 3-1, with the trip continuing tonight in Moose Jaw and wrapping up tomorrow in Brandon. Following tomorrow night's game against the Wheat Kings, the team will board the bus and drive 24 hours back to Portland, stopping only for meals.

Four players won't be making the bus trip though, as Ryan Johansen, Brett Ponich, Ty Rattie and Brad Ross will instead fly to Prince George, British Columbia to suit up for Team WHL Thursday in a game against a team of Russian players as part of the annual SUBWAY Super Series. The four Winterhawks playing for Team WHL is the most of any team in the league.
