C JR Murphy Promoted to Scranton/Wilkes Barre

Trenton Thunder News Release


The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced Thursday that catcher JR Murphy has been promoted from the team to Triple-A Scranton. Catcher Jeff Farnham has been transferred to Trenton from Scranton to take his place on the roster. Right-handed pitcher Corey Black has also been promoted to the team from High-A Tampa.

Additionally, LHP Cesar Cabral has completed his Major League Rehab assignment and is no longer on the Trenton active roster.

Murphy, the #15 overall prospect in the Yankees organization enterting theseason according to Baseball America, played in 49 games for the Thunder this season and batted .268 with six home runs and 25 RBI. He led all Eastern League catchers by throwing out 48% of base stealers (24-of-50).

Farnham spent the entire 2012 season with the Thunder and played in 30 games, batting .192 with one home run and six RBI. This season he played in 14 games with Scranton and batted .205 (8-for-39).

Black, the Yankees' 4th round draft choice in 2012 from Faulkner University, made 12 starts with Tampa this season and went 2-6 with a 4.08 ERA. The righty struck out 65 batters in 57 innings pitched.
