Reading, PA - Despite rallying back late, the Bowie Baysox (30-32) gave up a run in the eighth and lost to the Reading Fightin Phils (25-39) 4-3 on Thursday night after a nearly two hour rain delay.
The Fightin Phils struck first in the second inning. With one out, Anthony Hewitt drew a walk and went to second on a groundout. Sebastian Valle then knocked him in with an RBI single to give Reading a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Fightin Phils added two more runs. Tyson Gillies led off with a single, Albert Cartwright was hit by a pitch and then Edgar Duran bunted them both into scoring position. Tommy Mendonca followed with a two-run single that gave the Fightin Phils a 3-0 lead.
The Baysox rallied in the seventh and tied it up. Caleb Joseph and Brandon Waring got the inning started with back-to-back singles. Seth Loman followed with a double to bring home Joseph and get the Baysox on the board. After a pitching change Garabez Rosa got the Baysox within a run with an RBI groundout that scored Waring and also moved Loman to third. Then Kyle Hudson tied up the game with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-3.
In the eighth inning, Anthony Hewitt drew a lead off walk and was bunted over to second to Zach Collier. Then Valle hit an RBI single that gave the Fightin Phils the lead back 4-3.
