
Garcia Equals Career-High with Nine Strikeouts

The SeaWolves dropped the series finale to the Portland Sea Dogs, 2-0, on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland struck for a run in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. Shannon Wilkerson led off with a single and moved to second on an error by left fielder Marcus Lemon. Michael Almanzar doubled home Wilkerson with one out for a 1-0 Sea Dogs lead.
Portland added an insurance run in the eighth. Derrick Gibson led off with a double and was singled over to third by Wilkerson. Almanzar lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center to bring home Gibson for a 2-0 lead.
The story of the night were the two starting pitchers. For Portland, Anthony Ranaudo worked a career-high 7.2 shutout innings with a career-high 13 strikeouts. He struck out seven in a row from the first through third inning and allowed just two hits in the winning effort.
Garcia (0-1) for the SeaWolves worked a season-high 7.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks while equaling a career-high with nine strikeouts in the loss. He last struck out nine on May 5, 2006 while pitching with West Michigan against Burlington.
