Bullpen Shuts Down Worcester But Jacksonville Still Falls 5-1
April 9, 2022 - International League (IL)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - For the third time this series, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp played from behind early and couldn't overcome the deficit as they fell 5-1 to the Worcester Red Sox Saturday night in front of a crowd at 7,374 at 121 Financial Ballpark.
The Red Sox (4-1) continued to stay hot this series as they blew the game open in the top of the third. Up 2-0, Franchy Cordero led off with a single and Ronaldo Hernandez followed with a single of his own to put runners on first and second. After a flyout and strikeout, Johan Mieses (2) blasted a three-run home run to increase their lead to 5-0.
Jacksonville (1-4) broke into the run column in the fourth inning. Lorenzo Quintana reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on a two-out single by Charles LeBlanc. Erik Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1 but that is where the scoring stopped, as the bullpens shut down both opposing lineups over the next five innings.
Jacksonville and Worcester continue their series tomorrow at 3:05 p.m. The Jumbo Shrimp will turn to RHP Paul Campbell (0-1, 9.82) and the Red Sox will counter with LHP Darwinzon Hernandez (0-0, 6.75).
Coverage begins at 2:50 p.m. on ESPN 690, espn690.com and MiLB.tv.
Sunday is the first Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday. Kids can feel like the pros after each Sunday game by running the bases! Plus there will be free face painting and balloon animals.
