'Pigs win game one while Clippers snag nightcap

(Allentown, Pa) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (3-2) and Columbus Clippers (2-3) split Saturday's double-header as the 'Pigs won game one and the Clippers won game two.

Game 1

IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall smacked his first home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning against Tobias Myers (0-1). Hall hit a three-run home run with one out in the inning. The Pigs were able to score their fourth run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Dalton Guthrie scored on a wild pitch by Myers.

Lehigh Valley took a 4-0 lead and didn't look back after Ricardo Sanchez pitched three scoreless innings in his IronPigs debut. Mark Appel (1-0) earned the win after pitching two shutout innings. Jeff Singer followed with two scoreless innings to close out the game.

Guthrie extended his hitting streak to four games by finishing the game going 1-for-2 with a double.

Game 2

The Pigs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Tanner Tully (1-0) as Nick Maton hit an RBI double and Donny Sands hit an RBI single. The Clippers answered with three runs against Hans Crouse (0-1) in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Oscar Gonzalez and David Fry hit back-to-back home runs and Gavin Collins hit a go-ahead RBI single.

Alex Call hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning against Aaron Barrett to score Jose Fermin and give Columbus a 4-2 lead. Nick Mikolajchak earned his first save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.

The IronPigs and Clippers wrap up their season series on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
