Corrazini Lifts Bullies Over Cyclones
Wednesday, January 15, 2003

Cincinnati Cyclones 2 @ ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 5

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Speedy forward Carl Corazzini led the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to a 5-2 win against the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones. Linemate Shawn Maltby chipped in three assists.

Corazzini opened scoring with an even-strength tally four minutes, 23 seconds into the first period. Ryan Mougenel, who was activated from the 30-day injured reserve on Tuesday and returned to the lineup Wednesday, kicked off his new year with a power-play goal to put the Bullies up 2-0 at the end of the first frame.

Providence Bruins prospect Corazzini managed the only goal in the second period, his second of the night, assisted by Maltby and rookie Jade Galbraith, who entered the game fourth in the league in scoring among rookies.

Cincinnati churned out some offense at the beginning of the third period to close the Bullies' lead to one on a short-handed goal by Brent Twordik and an even-strength tally by Bob Crummer. But Corazzini worked his heroics and netted the game winner, his third goal of the night completing the hat trick.

Jim Henkel, who was added to the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star team to replace the injured Scott Matzka, tossed in an unassisted empty-net goal with six seconds left in regulation.

Bullies Win Garden State Cup, Beat Titans 4-3
Saturday, January 18, 2003

ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 4 @ Trenton Titans 3

Trenton, N.J. – Boardwalk Bullies Head Coach Michael Haviland believes it is one jewel in the hunt for the ultimate treasure. "It" is the Garden State Cup, the title earned by the team who wins the ten-game regular season series between the two ECHL franchises in New Jersey. Last season, the Trenton Titans proved victorious. This season, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies' hunt begins with the Garden State Cup and ends with the Kelly Cup. Saturday the Bullies defeated the Titans in come-from-behind fashion, by a final of 4-3, to capture the Garden State Cup. The Bullies are now 5-0-2, with 12 points, in seven games against the Titans so far this season.

With two key players, Kevin Colley and Carl Corazzini, out of the lineup because of AHL call-ups, consistent contributors led the Bullies. Second-year winger J.F. Caudron tallied three points (2G,1A) and rookie sensation Jade Galbraith earned four points (1G,3A).

Defenseman Kirk Furey opened scoring with his third goal of the season, assisted by Caudron and Galbraith, just three minutes, 29 seconds into the first period. The Titans squeezed in three goals, including a short-handed tally and an even-strength goal by Scott Bertoli, who had recently returned to Trenton's lineup after spending most of the season on injured reserve, before the halfway mark of the first frame to put the Titans up 3-1. Haviland then replaced goalie Matt Yeats with Scott Stirling, who will start in goal for the Northern Conference Team in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game on Tuesday.

The Bullies shut out the Titans the remainder of the game, with Stirling turning aside all 26 Trenton shots he faced. Galbraith netted a power-play goal nearing the end of the period to close the gap to one. Caudron scored a goal in both the second and third periods, accounting for the game winner, assisted by Galbraith and gritty forward Shawn Maltby, six minutes, 42 seconds into the third period.

Ryan Mougenel and Jim Henkel each earned an assist in the win. Mougenel now has two points in two games since re-joining the Bullies lineup after recovering from a broken wrist. Henkel extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games and now has 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists in his last 11 matchups.
