Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (14-23-7; 35 PTS; 7th NW div.) extended their winless streak to seven games (0-5-2) as they lost four games last week. Due to the ECHL All-Star Break, this week the Chiefs will play only two games; both at the War Memorial. Friday night they host Reading, and Saturday night Dayton. The Chiefs are now in last place in the Northwest division trailing sixth place Wheeling by two points. They are currently eight points out of a playoff spot.

GAME #41 (1/15/03) Toledo 5 – JOHNSTOWN 2 Boutin, Forget Two Assists

The Toledo Storm scored five unanswered goals as they defeated the Johnstown Chiefs 5-2, Wednesday night at the War Memorial. Nick Parillo and Alexandre Jacques each had two goals for the Storm. Jeff Johnstone also scored for Toledo. The Chiefs jumped out to a 2-0 lead with first period goals by Brent Bilodeau and Sam St. Pierre. Toledo goaltender Mike Minard made 23 saves for his first win of the season, while Chiefs goaltender Peter Aubry suffered the loss making 38 saves.

GAME #42 (1/17/03) PEORIA 5 – Johnstown 4 Nemec Two Assists

The Chiefs were leading 4-3 with 12:00 to go in regulation, before Peoria would score two goals and go on for the 5-4 win Friday night. Phil Roy, Steve Hildenbrand, Ryan Shmyr and Jim Leger (SHG) scored for the Chiefs. Peter Aubry made 21 saves in the contest.

GAME #43 (1/18/03) PEORIA 3 – Johnstown 2 Scally 15 Saves

The Chiefs gave up a lead for the second night in a row as they fell to the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 Saturday night. J.F. Boutin (shorthanded goal) and Jim Leger scored for the Chiefs. Mark Scally made his first start since December 21st, making 15 saves. The Chiefs out shot Peoria 25-22 in the game.

GAME #44 (1/19/03) DAYTON 3 – Johnstown 1 Aubry 47 Saves

The Chiefs got out shot 50-24 and lost their fourth straight game Sunday night with a 3-1loss at Dayton. Steve Hildenbrand scored the only Johnstown goal. Peter Aubry made 47 saves in the game. Chris M. Thompson had two goals for the Bombers.

The Chiefs and the Reading Royals (22-20-2; 46 PTS, 4th NE div.) meet for the third time this season Friday night. The Chiefs are 0-2-0 this season against the Royals and 6-4-0 all-time. The Royals have out scored the Chiefs 10-4. Both Reading wins have come at the War Memorial. Reading is 5-4-1 in their last ten games.

The Chiefs and the Dayton Bombers (16-21-7; 39 PTS, 5th NW div.) meet for the eighth time this season Saturday night. The Chiefs are 5-1-1 against the Bombers this season, out scoring them 28-18. Dayton is 4-5-1 in their last ten games. The Chiefs are 0-1-1 in their last two games vs. the Bombers.

CHIEFS NOTES:

- The Chiefs are 1-5-3 in the month of January.

- P.L. Courchesne is the Chiefs lone representative in the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game this week. The rookie defenseman from Nicolet, PQ has 8 goals and 18 points in 42 games.

- The Chiefs have not won a game in regulation at home since 12/13 vs. Peoria (6 games).

- J.F. Boutin has 6 goals and 14 points in his last ten games.
