Green Bay, Wis.- Five runs in the final three innings overwhelmed the Mallards and more consistent pitching secured a much- needed victory in front of a paid attendance of 6,252 fans.

Starter Alex Martinez (De Anza College) was also brilliant for Green Bay. He went five innings in the no decision and allowed one run (unearned) next to five strikeouts. Sam Brunner picked up his first win of the season in two innings of relief.

Tied 2-2, Caleb Ratzman (Illinois State) took matters into his own hands to lead off the seventh. He bunted a drag base hit down the first base line and swiped his eighth base of the year. Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) followed with a bunt that was thrown away toward first putting runners on first and third.

Then the scoring filed through. And the base running of the Bullfrogs confused a Mallards defense that also racked up five errors.

As Paul Jacobson broke toward second, Madison catcher, Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) tried to pick his college teammate Ratzman off at third. The errant throw bounced toward short stop and Ratzman scored, Jacobson moved up to third making it 3-2 Bullfrogs.

"Caleb Ratzman's bunt single... is what really ignited us," said Field Manager Skip Handelsman. "From there it kind of snowballed and that's how we like to play. Create as much havoc as possible."

Two more runs came across in the seventh frame as Matt De La Rosa's (Lenoir Rhyne) double, a near home run to right, gave the Bullfrogs a two-run cushion. De La Rosa then scored in an unusual fashion.

After Tyler McDowell (Washington State) hit one off the pitcher into the waiting arms of short stop Tony Butler (Madison College) he was caught breaking toward home. Caught in a pickle, De La Rosa alluded a tag and scored the third run of the inning. Heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, it was 5-2 Bullfrogs.

"Tyler put a good swing on the ball and I thought it was going to go right up the middle," said De La Rosa of his scoring play. "The pitcher put a glove on it...the third base man had the ball and threw to the catcher who was way inside so I decided to go outside and dove to home plate and luckily I beat him."

That lead was never relinquished.

A two-RBI double from Ryan Donovan (Hofstra) made it 7-2 in the ninth. Jeremy Graf (Flagler) shut the door in the ninth after giving up a lone run and Green Bay advanced to 4-5, three games behind the Mallards in the South Division

"We capitalized on their mistakes tonight," said Handelsman. "When we get going we can score some runs in bunches. We just want to pass the baton and give the next guy a chance to cash in on some runs."

The Bullfrogs come back to Joannes Stadium for four games against Kalamazoo and Battle Creek Friday-Monday nights. The first game, Friday, June 5th, against the Growlers features the "Human Cannonball" promotion
