Bulldogs Conquer Griffins 3-2 in Final Game

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs earned a 3-2 victory in their final game of the 2011-2012 season.

The 'Dogs took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Blake Geoffrion scored his sixth of the season, beating Grand Rapids netminder Jordan Pearce with a power play slot shot. With 3:08 left in the first period, Joe Callahan put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with a shorthanded goal, his third marker of the season. Andreas Engqvist also earned his second assist of the night on the play.

Tom McCollum took over the Grand Rapids net at the start of the second stanza. The Griffins scored their first goal of the game at 4:23 in the period, when Brian Lashoff tucked the puck past Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer just as the net came off its moorings. Grand Rapids tied the game at 2 with 2:51 on the clock, when Jamie Johnson sent Mayer's toe save rebound up high to score his 21st of the season. The teams were also tied at 19 in shots after 20 minutes.

Aaron Palushaj gave the 'Dogs the 3-2 victory with just 43 seconds to play in the third period, scoring his 15th goal of the season on the power play. Brian Willsie earned an assist on the play, making him the Bulldogs' leading scorer for 2011-2012. Mayer faced 31 shots in the game while Hamilton tested the Grand Rapids netminders 26 times.
