Buccaneers' Gobetz Commits to Penn State

Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Des Moines Buccaneers defenseman James Gobetz has committed to play hockey for Pennsylvania State University.
Gobetz (4-2-6 in 26 GP) leads Des Moines defensemen in goals and is tied for second in points from the blueline. Gobetz started the season with the Tri-City Storm but was acquired by Des Moines early in the season and all 26 of his games played on the year have been in a Buccaneer uniform.
Picking schools can be a difficult choice for many people, but it wasn't for Gobetz. "Choosing Penn State was an easy decision. It had everything I was looking for and more," explained Gobetz. "It not only has great hockey and great facilities but very good academics, which is something I was seeking in a school."
The Buccaneers coaching staff was not at all surprised that Gobetz garnered the attention of the Big Ten program. "James has been a great addition to our group this year. He has done a great job on the power play and James' poise and decision-making with the puck has been very valuable and his abilities have put him in this position," praised Des Moines assistant coach Nate Weossner. "We are very excited for James and his opportunity with a great program in Penn State."
Coaching staff, including Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky, was another big reason that Gobetz decided to make Happy Valley his college home. "All of the coaches are great people and teachers who I can't wait to learn from. I really couldn't be happier with my decision to commit to Penn State."
Penn State had several things going for it when it came to Gobetz's consideration, including being closer for family to visit, as State College, PA is just under five hours from his home in St. James, NY. Gobetz will also be playing at the next level with a familiar face in fellow Buccaneer Nikita Pavlychev. "Being able to go to Penn State with a buddy is a great feeling. Nikita is not only a great hockey player, but a great guy as well, as we've become good friends during our time here in Des Moines," said Gobetz. "I know he's just as excited as me to see what the future holds at Penn State."
