Tri-City Edges Lincoln, 4-2

Lincoln, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm topped the Lincoln Stars, 4-2, and evened the season series 4-4-0 on Friday night at the Viaero Center.

Nico Sturm opened the scoring for the Storm at 3:33 of the first period, capitalizing on a turnover inside the Stars defensive zone.

Lincoln made it 1-1 at 11:17 of the first with Patrick Polino's power play goal, but Tri-City regained the lead roughly three minutes later with Colin Rutherford's wrist shot over the glove of Stars goalie Peyton Jones.

The Storm carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Paul Washe extended Tri-City's lead in the second period with a shot from the right circle to make it 3-1.

Dominick Mersch then put the Stars on the board at 16:49 of the period, burying a pass from Carson Gicewicz.

The 3-2 score held for a few minutes before Storm forward Wade Allison stepped by Stars defenseman Christian Evers and ripped a shot past Jones to take the 4-2 lead at the second intermission.

Neither team scored in the third, handing the Stars their sixth consecutive loss.
