Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers gave up a goal just 15 seconds into the game and were never able to steal the lead back as Bloomington won 4-1.
Tarek Baker got the Thunder on the board on their first shot on goal when he took the puck up the left wing side and gained the blue line. It looked like an innocent enough chance but the bouncing puck found the back of the net and gave Bloomington a 1-0 lead. Bloomington would also take advantage of their first power play opportunity and after cycling it in the left wing side of the ice they found Jake Durflinger streaking down the slot and hit him with the puck and Durflinger was able to flick a backhanded shot into the net past Jan Ruzicka at 8:42 of the period to build a 2-0 lead. That would be the score after one period as Bloomington outshot Des Moines 12-5.
Nick MacNab relieved Ruzicka to start the second period and it may have helped ignite the Buccaneers as Kenny Hausinger would increase his team-leading point total for Des Moines in the 2nd period, as he scored 6:05 into the second period as David Keefer helped break up a pass and that left a puck in the skates of a Bloomington defender; Hausinger stole it away and went in all alone beating Logan Halladay for his 12th goal and 29th point on the year. Unfortunately for Des Moines Bloomington answered just over two minutes later as Bloomington gained the zone on a delayed penalty and Steve Merl fed it over to Sean Harrison who scored at 8:32 of the period. Jeremy Davies capped off the scoring at 14:05 of the third period with a blast from the left point after an offensive zone faceoff win by Bloomington.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period as MacNab made seven saves in the period and Logan Halladay made nine in the third. Bloomington outshot Des Moines 28-19 on the evening and the two teams will have a rematch back at U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 19th. As for the Buccaneers, their next game will be against the Tri-City Storm, back at home at Buccaneer Arena, on Saturday, January 16th.
