YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Three third period goals by the Youngstown Phantoms ended a defensive stalemate. The Phantoms capitalized on just six shots in the final frame, topping the Dubuque Fighting Saints 4-1 at the Covelli Centre on Friday night.

Phantoms forward James Winkler ripped a short-side shelf shot from the right circle on a two-on-one break over Hunter Miska's shoulder, proving to be the game-winning goal. Chase Pearson took any remaining wind out of the Fighting Saints' sails with a wicked release from the right circle on a late power play, making it 3-1.

Noah Lalonde ended any chance of a comeback, stashing home the fourth Youngstown goal of the night into the empty net. The Fighting Saints had a chance to draw back within one with that late power play and Miska at the bench for the extra attacker, but to no avail.

Keegan Ford tied the game at one in the midst of a five-minute power play, taking a shot from the right point that eluded Youngstown netminder Colin DeAugustine. That would be the only puck that would beat him, as he made 17 saves on the night.

Youngstown could only make do with one of their 11 shots on goal in the opening period, as Matt Alvaro poked home the rebound from a point shot. But the Phantoms only allowed four Fighting Saints shots on goal against, a season-low mark for one period of play.

The Fighting Saints return to action to finish up the season series with the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. CST. Join all of the action by tuning in to the flagship station of the Fighting Saints, Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM.
