Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins begin the week tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 2-2-1-1 record (6 points). The Black and Gold has put forth some of the AHL's best special teams efforts in the early going of the 2004-05 season, ranking second in the league on the power play (9/33; 27.3%), and seventh on the penalty kill (29/32; 90.6%). Head coach Scott Gordon's club also ranks fourth in the league with an average of 35.8 shots on goal per game.

Bruin center Brad Boyes has continued his torrid start to his third professional season. The 2003-04 AHL Second-Team All-Star is tied for second in the league with 4-6-10 totals in six games, while being tied for third in assists. He notched his second career hat trick in Friday's 6-2 victory over Lowell, while also adding an assist in the game. Boyes, a 22-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario, was acquired by the Boston Bruins from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for former Bruin defenseman Jeff Jillson on March 9, 2004. He was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 24th overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Another 2000 NHL Draft Pick is also off to a fast start to the season. Left wing Andy Hilbert leads the team and is tied for fourth in the league with five goals in six games. The former University of Michigan standout had points (5-2-7) in the Bruins' first five games. He ranks sixth in the league with 25 shots on goal, and is tied for the league lead with Boyes with three power play goals. Hilbert ranks fifth in franchise history in goals (69) and 11th in points (138) in 161 career games. He is also tied for fifth with 25 power play goals and tied for second with six shorthanded goals. Hilbert was Boston's third pick (second round), 37th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
