MOOSE FALTER IN HOMESTAND

After an encouraging season-opening road trip that saw the team win three of its first four games, the Manitoba Moose came home and dropped each of its first two home games. In the final season opener to ever be held at the Winnipeg Arena, the Moose were blanked 3-0 by former team MVP Tyler Moss. The following night, Edmonton scored two goals in the final 1:21 of the game to win 5- 4.

The Moose now head back out on the road for a stretch of five games in seven days that will take them through St. John's, Rochester, Binghamton and Hamilton. Sunday's game in Hamilton at 1:00 PM will be televised nationally on Rogers Sportsnet.

St. John's Maple Leafs

The Moose face the St. John's Maple Leafs for the first time this season Monday and Tuesday of this week. This past week, St. John's held their first two home games of the season, falling to Syracuse in a shootout on Oct. 21 and defeating the Crunch 4-1 on Oct. 23... The Baby Leafs are in the midst of a ten-game homestand... With three goals and one assist in five games, David Ling is the leading scorer for St. John's... Top prospect Matt Stajan is tied for the team lead in goals with three, though he has no assists as of yet... Mikael Tellqvist and J-F Racine make up the Baby Leafs' goaltending duo. Tellqvist is 1-2-1 with a 2.22 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in four games played... Racine is 0-1-0 with a 5.07 GAA and .792 save percentage.

Rochester Americans

The Rochester Americans will have the opportunity to avenge their season-opening loss to the Manitoba Moose on Friday, October 29th. In that game, Lee Goren scored a hat-trick as the Moose pummelled the Amerks 7-2 on the strength of five second-period goals... Jason Botterill scored a pair for Rochester... After four games, Rochester had yet to win a game with a 0-2-1-1 record... This past week, the Amerks lost a pair of games in Cincinnati including a 2-1 shootout loss on Sunday night... Botterill leads the team with four goals and two assists in four games... Ryan Miller has struggled with an 0-3-0 record, 5.64 goals-against average and .833 save percentage.

Binghamton Senators

Saturday, October 30th 6:05 p.m. Broome County Arena

Manitoba meets Binghamton for the first of four meetings this season on Saturday, October 30th... The B-Sens are coming off a 2-1 week during which they defeated Hamiton and Hershey but lost to Bridgeport in the third game in three nights... Antoine Vermette is Binghamton's leading scorer with two goals and four assists in five games played... Other notables including Denis Hamel who is tops on the team with three goals in five games and Jason Spezza, who had one goal and two assists after five... Former Moose Pat Kavanagh is wearing #18 for Binghamton and has one goal with a -3 rating after five games... Ray Emery has started all but one game for the Sens this season, thus far going 2-2-0 with a 2.97 GAA and .909 save percentage.

Hamilton Bulldogs

Sunday, October 30th 1:00 p.m. Copps Coliseum

Completing a stretch of three games in three day, the Manitoba Moose will play a matinee against the Hamilton Bulldogs to wrap up a five-game road trip... The Moose met Hamilton previously on Sunday, Oct. 17 with the Bulldogs prevailing 4-3. Duncan Milroy scored the winning goal in the third period and Corey Locke had a goal and an assist to lead the way for Hamilton. Yann Danis stopped 33 of 36 shots... Hamilton had an overtime win, a loss and an overtime loss this past week against Edmonton, Philadelphia and Binghamton respectively... Locke is Hamilton's leading scorer with two goals and three assists for five points. Tomas Plekanec has four goals. Danis has a 3-1-0 record with a 1.73 GAA and .939 save percentage.

MOOSE NOTES

No wins in homestand: For the first time in almost three years, the Moose came away with no points in a homestand. The last time Manitoba was swept in a homestand that lasted for two or more games was the 2001-02 season. They fell to Hamilton November 16 by a score of 5-4 and on November 17 by a score of 7-2.

Going the Wrong Way: After starting the season 3-0-0-0, the Moose have now lost three in a row to stand at 3-3- 0-0. Last season, the Moose lost three or more games consecutively only twice with a season-high losing streak of five games. Overall, in their previous eightyear history, the Moose have endured losing streaks of three or more games 36 times with the franchise record being eight games back in 2001 (1/25-2/11).

League Leaders: Entering American Hockey League play Sunday, Moose forwards Jason King and Peter Sarno continue to lead the way in offensive categories. After scoring a pair in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Edmonton, King now has nine goals which leads the AHL. He also has 11 points which is also tops in the league. Centre Peter Sarno collected one assist on Saturday, and is now tied for the league lead in assists with Manchester's Tom Kostopoulos with eight. Moose winger Jeff Heerema is tied for third in the league with six assists and seventh in the league in points with eight, while Lee Goren is tied for 13th with seven points and is tied for sixth in the league in goals scored with four.

Losing the Lead: Saturday's defeat to the Road Runners was the first loss for the Moose this season when leading after two periods of play. Manitoba entered the third period with a 3-2 advantage and was ahead 4-3 in the third before allowing two late goals in a 5-4 loss. The Moose only lost one game when leading after two periods of play throughout the entire 2003-04 season (03/15/04 @ HAM 5-2 L).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

Jason King

For the second consecutive week, the Player of the Week nominee for the Manitoba Moose is left wing Jason King. Over two games played, he scored two goals and fired six shots on goal. King scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season on Saturday, October 23 against the Edmonton Road Runners. King continues to lead the league in both goals and points with nine goals and 11 points on the season thus far through six games. Last season, King had 12 goals in 23 games for the Moose and 12 goals in 47 games for Vancouver.
