Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Indy dropped its sixth straight game Friday night in a 4-0 loss to invading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. RailRiders starter Chance Adams picked apart the Tribe lineup as it failed to advance a runner past second base in the game.

The RailRiders (25-28) plated a run off J.T. Brubaker (L, 2-2) right out of the gate. Two batters in, he walked Clint Frazier, who scored once Mike Ford knocked a single between short and third.

Scranton/W-B chased Brubaker in the middle of the fourth when Ford added a double, driving in Brandon Drury. The RBI two-bagger gave the first baseman his 26th of the season. Tanner Anderson entered in Brubaker's place and surrendered a Kyle Higashioka RBI single that inflated the RailRiders' lead to 3-0.

Adams (W, 2-2) flourished in his 11th start of the season, outdueling his counterpart to the tune of seven strikeouts and four hits through 5.2 innings of work. Two base-knocks by Kevin Newman were the only blemishes in his performance until the fifth inning, and he retired 12 of 14 batters through the first four frames.

The Tribe (25-27) threatened most in the bottom half of the fifth. Jacob Stallings and Erich Weiss strung together a couple singles, but they were stranded after two flyouts to right field that kept Adams' clean sheet alive.

Adams, the Yankees' fourth best prospect according to Baseball America, threw 62 of his 93 pitches for strikes. He lasted into the sixth inning before Cale Coshow entered in relief. Coshow earned a hold, combining with Cody Carroll to preserve the shutout the rest of the way.

Billy McKinney tacked on another run in the eighth inning with a solo homer, capping Scranton/W-B's scoring for the evening.

Indy's last six-game losing streak was from August 20-25, 2016. During the current six-game drought, Indy's run differential sits at minus-18.

Brubaker's loss is his second in a row. He allowed 14 hits and walked nine batters between his last two starts.

The Tribe gets another chance to right the ship in the series' second game Saturday night. Clay Holmes (2-3, 5.05) will toe the rubber for Indy and will square off with Justus Sheffield (0-1, 1.65). The RailRider southpaw is considered the Yankees' best pitching prospect by Baseball America.
