Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI- The Traverse City Pit Spitters walk it off in extra innings Jack Sheri goes wide. The Pit Spitters sweep the home opening series, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Carson Fischer came out strong in his season debut, throwing five innings of one run ball, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out four. After a slow start in the bullpen, Anthony Ramirez came in with the game tied throwing two and two thirds' innings striking out two. Hayden Jatczak threw an inning of scoreless ball in the top of the 10th, giving the chance for the Pit Spitters to walk it off.
The Pit Spitters got their offense going early as a leadoff walk by Blake Bean. Following Bean's walk, the Pit Spitters got another walk, a groundout, and a single that gave them a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Pit Spitters added another run in the second inning, when Brendan Guciardo singled, extending their lead to 2-0.
Colin Summerhill led off the bottom of the third inning with a big blast that bounced over the wall. A couple of sacrifice flies extended the lead to 3-0.
The Pit Spitters 6-1 lead going into the top of the sixth inning. Rivets responded nicely scoring two in the top of the sixth cutting the Pit Spitters lead to 6-3.
The Rivets battled back, scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh bringing the score to 6-6. Going into the top of the 10th, things got tight, after the runner advanced to third.
Going into the top of the 10th inning, things got tight after the passed ball allowed the runner (who starts on second in extra innings) to advance to third. After a Ramirez strikeout for out number one, Khalil Walker laid down a bunt resulting in a play at home for out number two. Parker Brosius made a catch to save on what would sure of been a go-ahead run to keep the score at 6-6.
Going into the bottom of the 10th tied, and a runner on second to start, the game was in the Pit Spitters favor. Guciardo walked, Zach Johnson flew out to center, and Brosius singled to bring up Devin Hukill to the plate with bases loaded and one out. Hukill hit a hard groundball to third, and the throw to the plate went wide left as the Pit Spitters walked it off.
