Broncos See Strong Stretches in Loss to Blades

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (9-29-1-3) played well for long stretches against the Saskatoon Blades (22-18-1-2) Saturday night, but dropped the game by a final score of 7-2.
The Blades jumped out to an early lead as Chase Wouters deflected a point shot under the glove of Isaac Poulter just five seconds into a power play and 1:20 into the first period.
After a strong shift in the offensive zone which saw the Broncos get a number of chances on Koen MacInnes, Saskatoon came roaring back through centre and Tristen Robins flew through the defence before firing a shot over Poulter's glove to extend Saskatoon's lead with 6:44 remaining in the period.
The Broncos had a power play late in the period and had several good looks, including wraparound by Sergei Alkhimov, finishing the period outshooting the Blades 10-9.
After killing off an early power play the Broncos cut into Saskatoon's lead. D-Jay Jerome gained the Blades line and dropped the puck for Cole Nagy who fired it on net.
MacInnes made the save, but couldn't poke the rebound away and Nagy knocked it past him for his fourth of the year.
The goal clearly energized the Broncos team as they controlled play for a long stretch of the game following the goal.
Shortly after a penalty kill, Saskatoon would regain their two-goal lead. Martin Fasko-Rudas fanned on his first shot off the rush in the slot, but recovered for a second chance and capitalized to make it 3-1.
The Blades then went ahead 4-1 after Alex Morozoff jumped on a rebound after a wraparound.
Swift Current wasted no time responding to the 4-1 goal as Jerome skated into the Saskatoon zone on the right wing before sending the puck to Aiden Bulych who beat MacInnes on the blocker side for his 10th of the season to make it 4-2 after two.
The Blades restored their three-goal lead early in the third as Robins raced down the right wing and centred for Crnkovic who redirected it past Poulter just 17 seconds into the period.
After an odd-man rush for the Broncos that missed the net, the Blades came in on an odd-man rush of their own and Aidan De La Gorgendiere fired home his second of the season.
He would pick up his second of the game off a screened shot as the Blades took the game by a final score of 7-2.
Swift Current is back in action Wednesday night when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.
