Quick Start Leads ICE over Hitmen, 5-2

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg ICE jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead en route to a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday night at Wayne Fleming Arena.

Special teams were the main driver for the ICE who scored three power play goals and once shorthanded in the first of back-to-back meetings between the two teams in Manitoba.

Peyton Krebs paced Winnipeg with a pair of goals while Nolan Orzeck, Michal Teply and Jakin Smallwood added singles.

Riley Stotts supplied both goals for Calgary and now has 19 on the season to tie a career-high.

The Hitmen outshot Winnipeg 39-32 with Liam Hughes making 37 saves for the ICE and Jack McNaughton recording 27 stops for the Hitmen.

Calgary, now 1-2 on their five-game road, will face the ICE in the rematch tomorrow Saturday, Jan. 18 and Sunday, Jan. 19 before concluding the swing in Red Deer (Jan. 25).

The next Hitmen home game is not until Sunday, Jan. 26 for a rematch with the Rebels. It's also Sunday Funday presented by Ricky's All Day Grill featuring face painters, concourse activities and giveaways. Following the game fans are invited to take part in 'Dodge Skate with the Hitmen', a 90-minute skate featuring 45 minutes with Hitmen players. Sunday Funday pricing sees a $9.99 ticket for kids 12 and under and a $15.99 ticket for adults (plus applicable fees and taxes).
