Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits will be represented by 2B Ryan Brett, OF Taylor Motter and C Luke Maile in the 2014 All-Star Game, the Southern League announced Wednesday afternoon.
Brett, 22, is in his first full-season with the Biscuits and has been a staple in the team's order at the top of the lineup. Arguably the most consistent offensive player for the Biscuits this year, the second-baseman his hitting .306 while his 60 hits rank near the top of the league. Baseball America ranked Brett as the #8 prospect in the Rays system. The Rays drafted Brett in the third round out of Highline High School in Washington.
Motter, 24, is in his first year with the Biscuits. After being limited to 70 games last year, Motter burst onto the scene in 2014, leading the Biscuits in both average (.313) and RBI (30). The former-17th round pick out of Coastal Carolina has turned into one of the most versatile players in the system. The Biscuits have used Motter at six different positions (2B/SS/3B/RF/CF/LF).
Maile, 23, is in his first full season with the Biscuits and becomes the first catcher for the Biscuits to be voted as a first-half All-Star since Stephen Vogt in 2011. The former-eighth round pick out of the University Kentucky has gotten off to a heart start after jumping the High-A level completely. Maile has already matched his home run total from 2013 with four while hitting .271 with a .354 on-base percentage.
The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 16th at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. The South Division All-Stars will be managed by Andy Green (Mobile) while the North will be managed by Razor Shines (Chattanooga).
The Biscuits have now had 43 players selected to the All-Star game in 11 years. The Biscuits had three players selected as Mid-Season All-Stars in 2013: Cameron Seitzer, Kevin Kiermaier and Mikie Mahtook.
