
Five Blue Wahoos Named Southern League All-Stars

The Southern League today announced that the Pensacola Blue Wahoos will be represented by five All-Stars in the Southern League All-Star Game in Chattanooga later this month. Infielder Rey Navarro was voted in as the league's designated hitter, outfielder Steve Selsky, RHP Michael Lorenzen, RHP Jon Moscot and RHP Robert Stephenson all made the South Division roster.
"Congrats to these guys on making the all-star team," said Blue Wahoos manager Delino DeShields. "This is a very well deserved honor for all of these guys who have worked hard all season long to this point."
At the time of selection, Stephenson is second in the league in strikeouts with 67 and fifth in opponent batting average with a .206 average He is 2-5 with a 3.39 ERA over 12 outings this season. The No. 1 pick in 2011 will be making his second all-star appearance; he was a Midwest League All-Star in 2013. He is the Reds top overall prospect as tabbed by Baseball America and the No. 16 overall prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com.
Moscot, a fourth round pick by the Reds in 2012, has had a strong first half with a 2.33 ERA, good for fourth in the league, and right behind Stephenson in the league strikeout ranks, tied for third with 59. He's second in the circuit in innings pitched with 73.1. His WHIP of 1.10 is also fourth in the Southern League. He entered the season ranked as the Reds No. 23 prospect according to Baseball America.
Also in the top 10 in the league in ERA is Lorenzen with a 2.80 (9th) mark for the year. He has struck out 41 while walking just 19 batters in 61 innings, the fewest among Wahoos starters with at least seven starts. This will be his first professional all-star game after getting drafted by Cincinnati in the first round last June. He entered the season as the No. 6 prospect in the Reds system by Baseball America.
Selsky has played a valuable role for the Wahoos, spending time at first base and the two corner outfield positions while hitting .301 with 16 RBI. One of the league's top hitting outfielders, Selsky is in his second season at the Double-a level. He played with Pensacola for 32 games at the start of the 2013 season before finishing out the year in Bakersfield.
Navarro, in his first season with the Reds organization, has been a key piece of the Blue Wahoos infield, splitting time between shortstop and second base. He had a great May and hit .313 with two home runs and 18 RBI. His seven home runs for the year have him on pace to set a new career high. This will mark his fourth all-star selection.
The players were voted on by club managers, radio broadcasters, team executives and print media. The Southern League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 17 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
